You can tell when I REALLY adore a collection because out come the detail shots. Proenza Schouler was the show I was looking forward to the most in New York and it didn’t disappoint in the least. The jewel tones, construction and folds were to die for. You can be sure that royal purple and mustard will be buzz colors for some time to come.

A lot of this was very pretty, yet, one gets the feeling that you’ve seen it before. Beautiful pieces, nonetheless.

I found the styling of this show to be particularly atrocious. It was hard to find even one good (whole and complete) look to post, but after a second viewing of this collection, I had to admit that individually, some of the pieces were quite wearable. It’s the way they were haphazardly thrown together that cheapens the collection. The blazer that Rachel Clark is wearing in that last picture, for example, might have been a cute piece had it not been paired with… everything else. There were a few nice dresses and jackets throughout. Unfortunately, the way they were presented made everyone who walked down that runway look like a Forever 21 abortion.

This collection is the perfect modern interpretation of Hérve Léger, whom I’m not ordinarily a fan of. But I thought this collection was exceptionally good. The bandage dress concept is used to great effect, especially with the play on gradients and tones. Many of the dresses manage to stay modern and relevant while invoking the image of ancient warrior princesses.

Most of this collection strikes a rather unfortunate pseudo-vintage H&M chord, but there are a few cute, wearable pieces nevertheless.

The graphic cuts on a number of these are fresh and striking.
This collection is subtly dramatic, yet wearable.

Some of this is a little too reminiscent of Balenciaga S/S 2006, but it’s still very good.
